Open match between Efler and Schmied for the three cushion crown. Relaxed show running for five pins overall winner Driessen jun.

Blog entry from 2022-06-02

Before the last two and all-important singles competitions of the €10,000 Royal Pro Home Tour 2021/22, Andreas Efler (three cushion) and Ernst-Jan Driessen (five pins) lead the rankings. Driessen leads calculated in terms of full loss points - after the last tournament, the second deletion result per player is taken out of the ranking - the field 9 points ahead of Jimmy Riml and is therefore the winner of the five pins overall ranking because Riml does not start and no other player still has arithmetic chances of the big coup. However, the battle for the three cushion throne has not yet been decided. There, after the adjusted score, Efler is only 2 pts ahead of Georg Schmied, who still has intact chances of winning the season ranking. Third-placed Tay-Dien Truong still theoretically has a chance of winning the three cushion overall ranking, but realistically it won't work out.

What about the remaining podium places? In the three cushion tournament, the decision for third place in the overall ranking will probably fall between Truong and Riml, who are also only 2 points apart after the adjusted score. Zoran Gajs, who is another 3 pts behind Riml, still has outsider chances here. In the five pins classification, positions one (Driessen jun.) and two (Riml) are already fixed, so mathematically there is nothing to shake about. The race for third place is all the more exciting in this discipline ranking. According to the adjusted score, Ernest Driessen (sen.) is currently in third place, 1 point ahead of Frank Ofner. Since Driessen sen. does not start and Ofner will score at least 1 point by starting, both are tied in third place before the last competition. Ofner has the chance to be the only third if he gets more than 1 ranking point next Sunday, i.e. finishes at least second last. Sounds easy, but it doesn't have to be. Cosimo Antonazzo could be a laughing third in the group of bronze aspirants, who again is only 1 point behind Ofner after adjustment. At the time of going to press, there was still a question mark over Antonazzo's participation. He may be replaced by Ernesto Steiner, who no longer has a chance of a podium finish in the general classification.
