Efler makes the dozen full, first win of the season for Riml

Victory in the three cushion tournament, 12th Home Tour title in total and overall lead for Andreas Efler. Jimmy Riml wins the five pins tournament.

Blog entry from 2022-05-09

The Home Tour three cushion tournament last Saturday (May 7th, 2022) could hardly have gone better for Andreas Efler: Superior tournament victory ahead of Zoran Gajs and Jimmy Riml, plus lead in the discipline ranking. His strongest rivals in the battle for the three cushion season ranking, Georg Schmied and Tay-Dien Truong, were not at the start this time. In the style of a champion, Efler took advantage of this huge opportunity and took over the ranking lead from Schmied with his triumph. Looking at loss points (deletion results), which only become definitely clear after the ninth and tenth tournament and whose calculation is currently theoretical in nature, Schmied is still leading the field in front of Efler, but his lead over Efler has now shrunk to a single point. Truong is still within striking distance of the leaders, five points behind Schmied.

The current ranking leader Ernst-Jan Driessen started into the competition as the big favorite to win the five pins tournament. After the cancellation of Efler and Luca Marzio Garavaglia, who still has a colossal 100% tournament win rate (10 out of 10), the way seemed clear for Driessen. The best chances of endangering Driessen were attributed to his father Ernest Driessen. In the end, it turned out differently than expected. Surprisingly, but well deserved, MWS mastermind Jimmy Riml won the tournament with a convincing performance ahead of Ernst-Jan Driessen and Cosimo Antonazzo. Riml remained undefeated throughout the tournament, dropping just one set. Two competitions before the end, the preliminary decision in the fight for the five pins overall ranking should have fallen in favor of Ernst-Jan Driessen.

The podium of the three cushion tournament:

  1. 1. Efler, Andreas (Hinterbrühl, AT | € 200 prize money)
  2. 2. Gajs, Zoran (Vienna, AT | € 125 prize money)
